Apologies for being unable to post in French.

I watched "Dynasties of Death" last night and was suprised to learn that Anatole Deibler's brother -in-law had suffered a violent end - battered to death according to the programme.

It also said that nobody was arrested for the killing.

Is this true ?

They were wrong when they said that Desfourneaux's son had committed suicide, so perhaps this was another error ?

Hello,ScottishMaiden !
F. Foucart, in his Deibler's bio, confirms this fact.At that time, Big Louis has been sacked by his brother-in-law for alcoholism, and sent to hospitals/asylums.Last place where he went was Villejuif, he escaped one evening and his body was found next morning, after a violent death.Further enquiries gave no results.
J. Delarue confirms the suicide of Desfourneaux's son, reasing being that his young wife was cheating on him with one of Deibler's team.
I don't know if Foucart's and Delarue's books are available in English.

Pierrepoint,

1. Thanks for the information on Louis Rogis - what year would that be ?

Was he Deibler's 1st class assistant at that time ? Who replaced him ?

2. According to other sources I've seen, Desfourneaux's son's suicide was a story made up by the family to cover up the truth. He was in fact murdered by gunshot during a gang feud in Le Havre

I understand he was a minor figure in the criminal underworld ?

Perhaps some of our other members could confirm, or refute ?

Hi, ScottishMaiden !
1) Year of his death seems unknown in aivailable books, but he was sacked
much before his demise. He was Deibler 1st class assistant, and was
superseded by Desfourneaux.
2) Desfourneaux's son was not recorded as a minor gangster, to the best of
my knowledge.Suicide for sentimental reasons is certainly the truth, but
I agree with you some doubts could exist.

Pierrepoint,

I still believe that Rene Desfourneaux was shot and killed in Le Havre on 2nd November 1934 as a result of his involvement in the local criminal underworld.

The suicide story was devised by the family to cover up the truth.

Mind you, this family tree also appears to have errors - who is Marcel Deschamps ?

Where is Marcel Chevalier ?
