But what a silly scene! What do we mention first: the executionners who behave like thugs, the wacky haircut of the poor women, Bonaparte's outragesly unaccurate uniform, the general mood ?
We know that executions during the Terror were a terrible thing, but here, it does look like a funfair...
This scene has been filmed at Vincennes, and you can see its keep in the background.
Now the guillotine? It looks acceptable for a movie, but the tilting board seems very heavy...

You're 100% right. All the execution scene is kind of "licentia poetica " about guillotining during french revolution
