The description of the execution deletes the name of the executioner but it probably was Ernst Reindel who was one of three state executioners in 1942 (Reichhart and Hehr were the others). Reindel resigned in 1943 and until a replacement could be named, Hehr served as the temporary Berlin executioner (and possibly Reichhart as well). By the end of 1943, Wilhelm (Willi) Rottger (yes, my forum name) was appointed scharfrichter aus Berlin and he served in that post to the end of the war.

The execution described in the protocol was no "record-setter". From the time the condemned was turned over to the executioner to the time the blade fell took 12 seconds. The standard was 7 seconds and we have reports of as little as 3 seconds. The protocol also documents the religious aspects of the execution which would be deleted in 1943.

the caption says: "le couperet qui servit en 1793 aux executions de Louis xvi et Marie-Antoinette."(the blade used in 1793 for the executions ofLouis XVI and Marie-Antoinette)
If we take in consideration the nonsymmetrical shape of this blade, and the holes made to pass the screws, in order to fix it to the "mouton", also pierced in an nonsymmetrical manner, it looks like a blade of the period.
I remember a picture published in "le Journal de la France " in 1969, which showed a similar blade, with the same explanation.
Maybe Bois-de-Justice can give his opinion?

Definitely an early blade, probably from the 1792-1796 batch of guillotines. The only unusual feature is the fourth bolt hole. Most of the early blades had three holes arranged in a non-symmetrical pattern, like the Venlo guillotine and the blade from the police museum.
