| According to TIME magazine archives, Anatole Deibler had a son-in-law, Andre Perrier, who was destined to follow him.

As far as I knew, he only had the one daughter, Marcelle, who never married.
Obviously TIME got their facts a bit confused !!!

| You are 100 % right, and all this Time Magazine stories are very nice fairy tales. Vous avez tout à fait raison, et les histoires de Time Magazine ne sont que des canulars. |

| I remember reading somewhere that Andre Obrecht had romantic inclinations towards his cousin, Marcelle, with a view to marriage.
Madame Deibler (whose late sister was Obrecht's mother) would not hear of it.
She did not want her daughter to marry an executioner as she had done.

| I had the same thought with the name Andre Perrier, assistant to Deibler...
In 1934, when Spada was executed, the assistants to Anatole were: Jules-Henri Desfourneaux Georges Martin Henri Sabin and... André Obrecht (Was Perrier an "assumed" name?)
The article seemed to imply that the executioners kept their identity somewhat secret and using a pseudonymn is not unlikely. Deibler did it in the 1907-1909 time period when he had to sell wine to supplement his income. Apparently the journalist talked to the assistant left behind to clean and pack-up the machine and he may have heard Obrecht's view of what was going to happen?
Obrecht was almost the "adopted son" of his uncle Anatole as he lost his own parents at a very young age. There was probably some discussion whether Desfourneaux or Obrecht would be Deibler's successor which led to a lot of tension between the two men.
This is pure speculation but I don't think Time Magazine would just invent a story from nothing.

| Yes, I thought along those lines also.
Deibler often used a false name to mask his identity.
What puzzled me was TIME's reference to Perrier as Deibler's son-in-law in both articles, which (as explained above) was not possible.

| I also read about false articles about Anatole's son or son in law, who was André Obrecht. In fact he was born some weeks before Anatole's son Roger who died after seven weeks. Anatole always kept a special relation with André because he reminded him his own dead little son. Later, I read that André's father wanted him to marry Marcelle, Anatole's daughter but André loved all the women (he married twice ) and he found Marcelle a little bit too flat for his taste . I also think I read that Marcelle wasn't attracted by him either... | |

| Une des explications possibles pourrait être celle-ci : Lors de l'exécution de Bergeron à Dunkerque (25/07/1930), Deibler et Obrecht étaient descendus à l'hôtel sous les noms de François Boyer et d'André Penier. Possible explanation may be as follows: For the beheading of Bergeron in Dunkirk ( 07/25/1930), Deibler and Obrecht checked in their hotel as François Boyer and André Penier. |
