| Well, if this ridiculous article is to be believed, there are 30,000 in the United States alone. http://www.remnantofgod.org/guillotines.htm Nothing like a little unfounded religious paranoia and fear-mongering. | |

| - Add two more in the Musee des Prisons in Fontainebleau (Brought back from from Reunion and from Guadeloupe) this was confirmed in writing by the museum. The Reunion one is an older style machine (per Sylvain)
- The "two from Fresnes" are no longer in Fresnes but probably stored in a Fort somewhere near Paris.
- The one from the Henker Museum in Sissach is a reproduction.
- Meyssonnier has three or at least parts of three. All are Berger-style machines.
- There were many more fallbeils in Eastern Europe. Poland - Vienna - Eastern Germany. I doubt they were destroyed but maybe not exhibited given the terrible time they evoque. I have seen modern pictures of one said to be the "Brandenburg Fallbeil".
- At least one in Tussaud's Museum in London, but maybe it is a reconstruction?
- One authentic blade displayed at the Conciergerie Museum in Paris

Do you know if the guillotines from Fontainebleau are exposed for public?

Yesterday I made a call to Museum of Martyrology in Pozna?(Posen)-Poland. Indeed- they have one nazi fallbeil in exposition(used during german occupation in Pozna? Mly?ska st. prison )
- One authentic blade displayed at the Conciergerie Museum in Paris You're right the blade and a scaffold stairs(?) http://ecrits-vains.com/ballades/ballade7.htm

| The guillotines at Fontainebleau are visible to the public but not assembled. The museum is only open one day a week (or less) and for special pre-arranged tours.
From the photo on your link I can see the Conciergerie blade appears to be from a Berger guillotine! It is not the typical shape of the blade from a 1792-94 model... I saw it a long time ago but did not know such technical detail back then, but now it is pretty clear it is from a rather new guillotine. The museum guide claimed it was the blade that took the King's head... not likely.

| Excellent work!! I have been looking for a list like this for a long time!! Would not a book and /or documentary on the history of these guillotines be a great idea? Kind of a "Rough Guide to Guillotines" taking the reader around Europe and the world?
Can I make a tentative suggestion for another "Lets count the guilltoines" topic. Lets count the people who have their own models of the guillotine. Michael has lots of course as does Robert Opie and if I may blow my own trumpet by directing you to one of mine on youtube... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geW3uKdgCyI
Comments and criticism are welcome but please note: This was inspired by a Hammer Horror and a set designer who was using his imagination!!

| Is there a link to the one at the Auschwitz museum?
There is one Tegel machine exhibited at the Pancraz prison museum in Prague There are two German fallbeils exhibited at the Ludwigsberg prison museum (A Tegel machine and an older fallbeil) There is also the Brandenburg fallbeil (Pre-tegel design) The Bruchsaler fallbeil, which is a completely different design, but I don't know where it is (I have a picture of it) And also the Wolfenbuettel fallbeil but also unknown location.

| 1.Unfortunately not. Only information from newspaper http://i83.imagethrust.com/images/3WPG/view-image/katowice.html but I'm not quite sure if fallbeil from picture above is the Katowice fallbeil 2.Now, in execution room Wolfenbuttel is small Memory-Museum but probably without fallbeil 3.I have confirmed information(from museum office) that in Museum of Martyrology in Poznan(central-west Poland) is another nazi fallbeil on display(used in Poznan prison during nazi occupation) | |
