Well, the fascination of the guillotine and in general of the scaffold is amazing when looking at the 19th century litterature.
I guess you will remind how Athos hidden beneath the floor of the scaffold of Charles 1st of England learn from the king - who whispers so that he can hear him - the existence of a treasure of 4 barriques full of gold coins to help his son - the future Charles II - to recover his crown.
And D'Artagnan in the Viscount of Bragelonne, who helps restoring the king Charles II and invests part of the money he gets as a reward in buying an inn on the place de grève in Paris - where people rent room whenever there is an execution. Read again the Viscount of Bragelonne...
I live in Venice, Italy.
The news tonight are very weird. In France a gendarm shot some rounds on a gypsie while he was trying to escape. In Italy yesterday an engineer in Florence shot another gypsie he found in his bedroom as he woke up at 5 in the morning - obviously a burglar and this after a small fight with the jerk - and it looks he - the engineer - is going to get congratulated for his deeds (it is true there is a law in Italy which consents legitime defense to defend your properties - and not only your life).
